COVID-19 in Vial - Update of Report from May 2020
In May we reported on the failure to prepare for a Covid-19 outbreak in the EU Hotspot Vial.
At the time we published the report there had been no confirmed cases of the virus in Vial.
Since then, there have been two reported outbreaks in the camp: one in August and another in October. The most recent figures show a 7% positivity rate in the camp, suggesting, as advocates have been warning for months, that the virus is spreading quickly throughout the camp. In light of these developments we have updated our report to reflect the current conditions. Although many of the conditions we described in May remain the same, there have been important developments regarding testing, transfers to the mainland, and access to legal services.
