Unaccompanied minors on Kos must stay in a ‘Safe Zone’ in the so-called Closed Controlled Access Center (CCAC) that they likely will not leave for the duration of their time on Kos. In other words, unaccompanied minors are subjected to detention. The conditions are extremely inadequate and dire as they have limited access to school, recreational or child-friendly activities, and are guarded by security personnel 24/7.
